#312 - Purple and Green Ivy Leaves

Beside one of the paths we take in the park, ivy grows up the trees, looping from branch to branch and hanging in swathes over the stream. I am fascinated with the fact that even on the same tree the leaves are different: some green with yellow veins; some purple and threaded with green; some five fingered like maple leaves, some three and some smooth edged and glossy.

#293 - Ivy Flowers

Until I began this blog, last autumn, I had never noticed that Common Ivy has a rather amazing flower. They look like something that should grow on the seabed and are a very hopeful green that seems at odds with the usually sombre ivy.

#148 - Ivy on wood

Ivy looks especially nice when it is growing on trees, it doesn't remind one of death or decay, instead it is one of the few green plants that weathers the Winter. When there is so little green around you appreciate Ivy. These three little leaves looked very fresh and endearing, clinging to an old stump.

#104 - Ivy Flowers

Ivy is everywhere, right? But I never noticed it had flowers, which is shameful, and they look so exotic as well, these have lost all their little extra petals and still look wonderful. Happened to read the other day that in the language of flowers ivy means fidelity and friendship. Had  I learnt that last year I would have thought it a shame that such a dull plant should symbolise something so profound. Now I think it rather fitting. And I keep seeing it everywhere, telegraph poles, fences, corners of car parks, walls - even in the city, ivy is everywhere. Common Ivy, which still manages to be a little out of the ordinary.

#38 - Common Ivy

We noticed this ivy in the hedge because of its flowers - it was flourishing, the leaves beautifully glossy and exuberant. The children and I collected a few of the leaves and I noticed that they all had a slight twist so they wouldn't lie flat but curled together like a rosette.
